Adjusting the front axle

Info about disassembly & assembly of the front axle bearings.

Important tightening data:

Bearing nuts: Tighten to 180Nm. (Personally I loosen them 1/8 turn, Mercedes does NOT prescribe this)

ALWAYS renew both nuts and locknuts! ALWAYS!  (For sale here on the site)

The original socket spanner has, depending on the type of nut, the following order numbers:

460 589 00 07 00.   or.     460 589 02 07 00.     or.   463 589 00 07 00.

4 bolts at the top of the sphere: 190 Nm (I always put a bit of locktite on this)

4 bolts underneath the sphere: 260 Nm. (I always put a bit of locktite on these)

Brake seat 200 Nm above and 250 Nm (I always put a little locktite on this)

Wheel bolts according to Mercedes Steel rims : 190Nm ; I always tighten to 110Nm, with copper grease on the bolts.

                                           Aluminium rims : 140Nm ; I always tighten to 110Nm, with copper grease on the bolts.
